The problem…
As is well known, the energy consumption, both in domestic and in business or industrial sector, is a very significant percentage of the total energy consumption. More specifically, the electricity consumption is the most important factor since it relates to the largest variety of devices. These devices cover basic and continuous needs such as lighting, heating & air-conditioning, ventilation, hot water production, transportation and many more which do not mention for the sake of brevity.
The wrong first step…
In order to reduce the energy consumption and achieve a streamlining of the electricity usage many companies or even individuals, proceed to devices or bulbs replacement with other more energy efficient in order to reduce consumption. These actions prima facie appear to be correct but are likely soon to be insufficient. This is because it has not initially defined the context in which energy savings will be built in each project. By this I mean that even these movements reduce the energy consumption, if the owner and the energy consultant does not know the starting point and the desired consumption target, the final positive result is uncertain.
The correct first step…
It is generally accepted that in order to properly solve a problem you need first to clearly identify it and properly define the expected solution target. So, speaking in energy saving terms you should first transact the most important procedure of all which is the energy measurement. This process is a complete record of the electrical consumption of each building or processes in which it depicts the electricity consumption per electrical circuit and per unit time. This recording of energy consumption is preferable to run online and make it possible to derive analytical reports anytime we want through the internet, even in our mobile phone. Also the online recording has another significant advantage which is the notice option for exceeding consumption limits or early warning of possible damage of devices or electric circuits.
The equipment…
The energy measurement technology is well advanced and enables us to use new type equipment that does not require large and costly electrical interference as for example additional wiring, digging in masonry or other construction or metal work. This equipment is usually applied using induction into existing supply cables. There are also models having the socket shape to fasten the device directly to it, and provide power supply while measuring them in the same time. All these devices are connected to the internet through a Wi-Fi connection and create an economical and easy to install, visually observed, and electronically recorded metering system.
The conclusion…
It is evident that in order for any energy saving project to achieve its purpose must necessarily start with the energy measurement and recording procedure. First because in this way the customer feels more secure and it is easier for him/her to proceed in any investment as he/she will know the results in a money and time measurable way. Also because this assists the energy saving companies by giving them the ability to promote their projects both to the current and to the future client in real and not to theoretical energy and money savings.
